Gloucestershire College Athletics Project
September 2018 saw the beginning of a brand new athletics project with the ever fantastic students of Gloucestershire College.
Generously funded by Gloucestershire County Council through their Growing our Communities Fund, Nova has committed to delivering a whole year of athletics training to the students as part of their education timetable.
Hosted at the Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham, this comprises all of the disciplines across athletics, including sprinting, long jump, discus and javelin.
On top of this, Nova has organised multiple holiday skills days to minimise boredom and isolation during the holiday breaks. While research from Sport England (2016) suggests that people who are disabled are twice as likely to be inactive compared to non-disabled individuals, this comprehensive programme of sport and athletics will offer a significant opportunity for many young people to access sport.
Finally, the end of the year sees a climax with an Athletics Festival, also at the Prince of Wales Stadium. Around 100 of the students will take part in a host of events where many of them can put their new-found skills to the test. Which team will end up on top this year?
Thank you once again to Councillor Suzanne Williams and Gloucestershire County Council for enabling this amazing project to happen and benefit so many local people.
