Frome Falcons Club Background
Frome Falcons Powerchair Football Club was set up in April 2018 by Nova Sports following hugely successful taster sessions. With help from the local community, fortnightly sessions were ran, the equipment was bought and two teams were created. It currently takes place at Frome Sport and Fitness Centre, Princess Anne Road, Frome. The club is the only one in the whole of Somerset!
Following its success, a parent-led committee was established and the club became separate from Nova Sports management. Instead, Nova coached lead the training sessions as well as taking the club to competitions in the South West League. Sessions take place fortnightly on Saturdays, Advanced Players between 13:00 - 14:15pm and Development Players between 14:30 - 15:15pm.
Powerchair football is played in electric sports wheelchairs with bumpers on the front of them. Games are played 4 v 4 on a basketball court, are 40 minutes long, and there are currently around 100 clubs in the U.K.
Since there is no advantage given for size or age, participants as young as 7 can play with 70 year olds! It is also a mixed gender sport and the club caters for everyone from beginners to more experienced players.
